‘Cricket team ke alawa sab jeete hain’ – Fans react as Indian Hockey team wins Asian Champions Trophy 4-3 against Malaysia

The Indian hockey team came back to win after falling down 3-1 at the end of the second quarter.

At the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai, India defeated Malaysia in the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 final after falling behind 1-3, to record their fourth championship. 

Right away, Malaysia were on the attack and even attempted to score within the first minutes of the game. However, India took the lead when Jugraj Singh successfully scored a penalty corner in the ninth minute. 

Exactly five minutes thereafter, Abu Kamal Azrai equalised with a goal-bound deflection. During the 18th minute of the game, Malaysia took the lead thanks to Razie Rahim. In the 28th minute, Muhamad Aminudin added to the advantage with a spectacular drag-flick.

At the beginning of the third quarter, India missed the goal twice. But during the 45th minute of the game, Harmanpreet Singh along with Gurjant Singh each grabbed two quick goals to tie the score at 3-3. India and Malaysia each had two penalty corners in the fourth quarter, but neither of them turned out to be successful. 

In the end, India earned a stunning victory thanks to a goal by Akashdeep Singh during the 56th minute of play. Mandeep Singh’s pass was deflected by him, allowing him to put the ball in at the right post corner. India won the game by maintaining control of the action in the last seconds.

Japan clinch 3rd place after high scoring encounter with South Korea

At Chennai’s Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Japan defeated South Korea in the 3rd/4th place match-up of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023. Japan’s goal came in the third minute of the game from Ooka Ryoma. In the ninth minute, Ryosei Kato increased the advantage.

In the final seconds of the opening quarter, South Korea got their first goal thanks to veteran Jonghyun Jang. Park Cheoleon then scored the equaliser in the 26th minute.

However, Kentaro Fukuda’s goal just before halftime gave Japan the lead again. Jonghyun Jang scored again to tie the score at three after five minutes had passed. In the third quarter, both teams played strong defensively, and there were no goals.

Japan was the clear winner and scored twice. In the 53rd and 56th minutes, respectively, Ken Nagayoshi and Shoda Yamada both scored goals to make it 5-3 and win the all-important game for the team.
