Sanil Shetty reigned over Northern Ireland’s Paul Mccreery in straight sets 11-5, 15-13 and 11-6.
Sanil Shetty, who won the gold medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, is doing well at the CWG 2022 also. He won gold in 2018 along with Sharath Kamal, Anthony Amalraj, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran & Harmeet Desai. In the Men’s doubles event, Sanil Shetty won bronze along with Harmeet Desai.
He has once again proved his worth in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. Sanil Shetty reigned over Northern Ireland’s Paul Mccreery in straight sets 11-5, 15-13, and 11-6. Sharath Kamal and Harmeet Desai won the first match for India. Sanket made the best use of his opportunity and won the match against Paul Mccreery.
Women take lead against South Africa
Manika Batra won her game against South Africa’s Musfique Kalam in 11-5 11-3 11-2 sets. She provided India with a 2-0 lead against South Africa. Before her, the women’s doubles duo of Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison, combined to beat the South African pair of Lailaa Edwards and Danisha Patel 11-7 11-7 11-5 to hand India their first lead.
At the end of the day, the women’s brigade managed to win 3-0 over South Africa. This lead would provide India with the much-needed momentum to take a step further.
India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 so far
India has been exceptional at the Commonwealth Games 2022 so far. Athletes are slowly making their way into the medal tally. India has won one gold medal, two silver, and one bronze medal so far. Sanket Mahadev Sargar opened the account for India with silver. in the 55kg weightlifting category. Weightlifting medals were later won by India’s Gururaja Poojary (bronze), Mirabai Chanu (gold), and Bindyarani Devi (silver), bringing the country’s total to four.
Indian women’s cricket team will take on Pakistan on day four of the event at Edgbaston in what is going to be an exciting match. PV Sindhu will look to carry on the momentum after winning against Pakistan in straight sets. Many stars are yet to take on the stage.
