After the conclusion of the 20-20 World Cup 2022, Australia is hosting England for a three-match ODI series. The first match of the series is currently underway at the Adelaide Oval. The hosts are on track to take a lead of 1-0 in the series thanks to David Warner‘s masterclass.

The southpaw produced a brilliant half-century with the bat while chasing a target of 288 runs. Warner opened the innings along with Travis Head, who also scored a well-fought half-century. The two put together a solid 147-run opening partnership before Head (69 runs in 57 balls) was dismissed.

However, Warner continued on his way to a great innings as he was joined in the middle by Steve Smith. The star batter went on to score 86 runs in 84 balls, with 10 fours and a six. He was finally dismissed in the 29th over for a team score of 200 by David Willey as Sam Billings took a stunning diving catch.

This was a welcome relief for the batter, who had not had the best run in the 20-20 World Cup. However, fans were disappointed that the batter missed out on a well-deserved century. The opening batter has faced a century drought. It has been 66 innings since Warner scored his last international century. “Looks like David Warner will never reach 3 figure score in his life again,” a fan wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, England had been losing wickets at regular intervals earlier in the game, putting them under a lot of pressure. Only Dawid Malan, batting third, kept the game going. He batted brilliantly to put his team in a good position. He finished his innings with 134 runs in 128 balls, with 12 fours and four sixes.

Adam Zampa has been in outstanding form for Australia with the ball. He took three wickets while conceding 55 runs in his 10-over spell. Pat Cummins, the captain, also took three wickets, while Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc each took one. England finished the first innings with a total of 287/9.
