Big Bow for Delhi as Australian star joins injury list

Published on

Mitchell Marsh was brilliant with his all-around performances in the 2021 20-20 World Cup. This led to him winning the Australian T20 Player of the year for the 2021 season. Besides, he also earned a contract with the Delhi team in the Indian T20 League 2022 priced at INR 6.50 Cr.

According to the latest news, Mitchell Marsh has sustained a hip flexor injury during training ahead of the limited-overs series against Pakistan. This has put a big question mark over Marsh’s availability for the Indian T20 League. Australia’s skipper, Aaron Finch confirmed the development of the star all-rounder.

“Mitch Marsh is off for a scan; he injured his hip flexor yesterday at training. I don’t think he will be available for this series based on how he was feeling yesterday,” Finch said.

Notably, Australia won the Test series against Pakistan after winning the third match of the series. Meanwhile, Australia has rested some of their key players like David Warner, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith for the shorter formats. The ODI series between the two will begin with the first match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on 29th March 2022.

If the strain sustained by Marsh is serious, it may take nearly 6 weeks for recovery. Thus, Mitchell Marsh might miss the majority of the Indian T20 League. This will be a huge setback to Delhi’s plans for this season as the all-rounder is an important part of the squad.

The Delhi team is already suffering from the unavailability of their overseas players. In the first match against Mumbai, Delhi was only able to field two overseas players. If Mitchell Marsh pulls out, it will add to the woes of the team.
