Ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, Indian fans are worried as two of their middle-order batters are coming back from injuries. Team management and fans are eagerly awaiting their fitness assessments and match performances. Meanwhile, former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers has suggested a name that can end India’s No. 4 conundrum.

De Villiers said that star India batter Virat Kohli should bat at number 4, as he is better than anyone else. According to De Villiers, Kohli has the ability and match sense to bat at number 4. He will also provide stability to the middle order, which will help the Indian team. However, a former RCB legend believes that number 3 is Kohli’s best batting position, but Indian batters can do well at number 4 too.

“We’re still talking about who will be the No. 4 batter for India. I’ve heard some rumours about Virat (Kohli) possibly taking up that position. I would be a big supporter of that. I think Virat is perfect for No. 4. He can put the innings together and play any kind of role in that middle order. I don’t know if he would like to do that. We know he loves his No. 3 position; he’s scored all his runs there, but at the end of the day, if the team needs you to do something or play a certain role, you have got to put your hand up and go for it”, the former South Africa batter said.

KL Rahul’s injury raises concern for team management.

It’s worth noting that India announced their 17-member Asia Cup squad on Monday this week. Team management included both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer in the squad. According to skipper Rohit Sharma, Iyer is fit, while Rahul is carrying a niggle. This has increased India’s concern as if Rahul fails to participate in the first few games, the team will have to compromise with their combinations.

However, as a precautionary measure, the team has gone with wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson as a standby backup. Meanwhile, the team has organised a practice camp in Alur. In the five-day camp, the team will focus on increasing team bonding, skills training, and others. After the camp, the team will fly to Sri Lanka for the continental tournament.
