In the 62nd game of the ongoing IPL 2023 between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 15, SRH made some questionable decisions. They decided to drop Glenn Phillips, who won the game against Rajasthan Royals. The New Zealand international was named among the five impact subs. Also, they decided to go with an extra bowling option despite having the strategy to bowl first.

SRH Subs: Anmolpreet, Philips, Hosein, Dagar, Reddy.

SRH Playing XI: Abhsishek, Tripathi, Markram, Klaasen, Samad, Sanvir, Jansen, Markande, Bhuvneshwar, Farooqi, Natarajan.

GT Subs: Dayal, Bharat, Nalkande, Kishore, Mavi.

GT Playing XI: Saha, Gill, Sudharsan, Hardik, Miller, Shanaka, Tewatia, Rashid, Mohit, Shami, Noor.

Apart from this, Jansen bowled two no-balls, one of them matching the kind Mohammad Amir bowled in the controversial Test against England in 2010. All of this has led to fans questioning the tactics of the 2016 winners.

Sunrisers Hyderabad was eliminated while Gujarat Titans qualify for the playoffs

Meanwhile, taking about the game, the Orange Army had a great start as Bhuvneshawar Kumar got rid of Wriddhiman Saha, their former player. However, the likes of Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill kept punishing the bowlers with the former playing second fiddle for a while. They put together 147 in just 13.4 overs. Sudarshan scored 47 off 36 balls including six fours and a six. On the other hand, Gill scored his maiden IPL hundred.

However, apart from them, no player touched the double-figure mark which is why they were rather restricted to 189/9. B. Kumar took five wickets for 30 runs. However, with the ball, GT showed SRH that 189 runs are more than enough for them. They started by taking seven wickets for 59 runs. At this stage, Heinrich Klassen and Kumar put together 68 runs for the eighth wicket. In the end, the 2016 winners managed 154/9, losing the game by 34 runs.

With this loss, the Aiden Markram-led side has been eliminated from the playoffs race. On the other hand, the Titans have now qualified for the playoffs race.
