Recently, David Warner addressed the opinion expressed by former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif that, despite Australia capturing the 2023 World Cup, India is the strongest team on paper. The 37-year-old emphasised how crucial it is to execute whenever the stakes are enormous.

Having won all nine games, Team India concluded the league stage atop the points table. In the meantime, the Men in Yellow dropped their first two matches before winning their next seven.

In addition, Rohit Sharma and team defeated New Zealand in their semi-final with greater conviction than Australia, who barely defeated South Africa by three wickets. However, in the championship match, the Australians proved they were ready for the big stage as they defeated India with six wickets to win their sixth ODI World Cup.

After the match, Kaif said India was the strongest team on paper and refused to concede that the superior team prevailed in the World Cup in an interview with Star Sports.

Warner responded to the remarks on his Twitter account. He wrote, “I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come.”

“It was Australia’s day in the final” : Mohammed Kaif

Now, after David Warner’s tweet went viral, Australian pundits, supporters have been mocking Kaif for his comments. He had enough and earlier today posted a tweet regarding his previous comments and clarified his previous statement.

He said, “Facts: It was Australia’s day in the final, they won, they are World Cup winners. More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost 11th, they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament’s best team. Both facts, on paper and on field. Relax Australia.
