BCCI to investigate Wriddhiman Saha fiasco – Reports
A day after senior wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha shared a series of screenshots of ‘insulting’ WhatsApp texts the batter received from a ‘senior’ journalist, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a ‘thorough’ investigation on the matter to find the culprit.
Saha, while sharing his post on a micro-blogging site, expressed his anger at being spoken in an insulting way despite his contribution to Indian cricket. His tweet came on Sunday after the 37-year old was snubbed from the squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Several other senior players like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma were also ignored.
“The matter cannot be put to rest until every single detail of what Saha has said in the interview and the tweet he shared is looked into. The BCCI intends to delve deep into the crisis and also find out if any other cricketer has gone through a similar experience,” BCCI official told The Times of India.
“Saha is a contracted cricketer of the BCCI. The onus is on the Board to not let its own player down. That aside, if there is any kind of a nexus at work here, one has to look into it,” added BCCI officials.
Saha received a lot of support from several former Indian cricketers including Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh. Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh reacted angrily and urged Saha to name the journalist that threatened him, to save the other honest media persons from scrutiny. With the matter reaching a boiling point, BCCI has now decided to intervene and conduct a proper investigation
