Bangladesh put up a respectable total against India in their Asia Cup 2023 match against India, thanks to its middle order and a strong showing from the back end as well. India won the toss and decided to bowl, and their pace bowlers did a great job. The batsmen were asked questions by Shami and Thakur as they successfully made the ball move around well. The Bangladeshi top order was taken off guard, and their side’s position at 59/4 was extremely unstable. 

They were saved by their dependable batter Shakib Al Hasan, who had competent assistance from Towhid Hridoy. The Bangladeshi captain was close to reaching a century when Thakur outsmarted him with a great delivery. He managed to score 80 runs in 85 balls, while Hridoy scored 54 runs in 81 balls. Down the order, Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan made strong efforts that enabled Bangladesh to post a score of 265. 

Shubman Gill stars in close run-chase but ends up on the losing side

India rested its star players before the final match and chose to go after the massive total under lights. The rookie Tanzim Hasan Sakib struck twice early on, including the crucial dismissal of Rohit Sharma. However, Shubman Gill persisted and managed to maintain play at one end as wickets dropped at the other. 

He achieved his 6th international century of the year, but his dismissal changed the situation, and in the end, Axar’s efforts were insufficient. In the middle overs, all four of Bangladesh’s spinners who entered the game locked down the batsmen as they effectively used the pitch’s turn. Five wickets were split among the pacers, who also contributed to the game’s eventual conclusion.

Rohit Sharma spoke to the reporters after the team’s narrow loss to Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023. He said, “Gill’s hundred was brilliant. He backs his game, he knows exactly how he wants to play. Pretty clear on what he wants to do for the team. Look at his form over the last year. Pretty solid against the new ball. Works really hard, there’s no optional practice for Gill.”
