‘Bangladesh ki yaad aagayi’ – Fans react to horrifying review by England during first T20I against New Zealand

England won the game convincingly against New Zealand during the first T20I between the sides

In the match against New Zealand, Jos Buttler sent an LBW appeal upstairs for England, but replays swiftly showed the ball had actually struck the centre of the bat rather than the pad, making it one of the worst reviews ever.

The amusing incident occurred amid their epic triumph during the first T20I match against New Zealand. With the Black Caps six wickets down and with less than 100 runs on the scoreboard, Liam Livingstone was bowling, and as Glenn Phillips stepped forward in defence, Buttler rose in appeal from behind the stumps.

He, along with Livingstone, had to decide whether to review immediately because there were no other nearby fielders available. They elected to walk upstairs, maybe believing that the ball had glanced through the shoe before striking the bat.

Buttler’s embarrassed grin suggested he was aware it was an upbeat yell from the beginning. How overly hopeful was immediately shown as replays revealed the ball had landed in the very centre of the bat’s toe and was far away from the pad.

The Kiwis, who were given the opportunity to bat first, put up a terrible batting performance to scrape themselves to a subpar score of 139/9 after 20 overs. Glenn Phillips led the visitors in scoring with 41 runs made from 38 deliveries.

In reply, the hosts lost Jonny Bairstow during the first over before being steadied by a polished half-century from Dawid Malan. Then, with six over remaining, Harry Brook added a quick-fire 43 from 27 deliveries to help England cruise to a seven-wicket victory.

With only 24 runs remaining, Livingstone entered the fray and completed the formalities by pulling a short ball from Adam Milne towards the stands beyond the deep square-leg region.

The Black Caps won in a dramatic fashion during the semifinal of the 2021 T20 World Cup in their most recent T20I match to progress to the WC final. In 2019, the teams also engaged in a memorable five-match T20I series, with England pulling out a 3-2 victory.
