Bangalore yet to accept Virat Kohli’s resignation – Reports

Published on

According to the reports, three-time finalists Bangalore hasn’t accepted the resignation of their long-serving skipper Virat Kohli. Last year, Kohli resigned from the leadership role ahead of their first game against Kolkata in the second leg of the league. The first leg was played in India in April-May but the COVID-19 cases in different teams meant that the cash-rich league was suspended till a further date.

In September-October, the rest of the matches were played in the United Arab Emirates. Since Kohli’s decision to step down, the fans are keenly waiting for the franchise to announce its new skipper. Last month, during the mega auction, they tried to buy Shreyas Iyer but he was nabbed by Kolkata for 12.25 crores. Before the auction, there were reports which suggested that the franchise is looking to buy Iyer, a potential captain.

The team has quite a few captaincy options if Kohli doesn’t agree to lead the team anymore. Players such as Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, and Dinesh Karthik have the experience of leading different teams. Maxwell has led Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League over the years. Plessis has led South Africa for a long time and Karthik previously led Kolkata.

Bangalore recently revealed that the new skipper will be announced on March 12. The skipper will be announced at a special event which is planned by the franchise in their home city. The event is called unboxing, which will take place at the Museum Cross Road, Church Street in Bangalore. If the news of Bangalore not accepting Kohli’s resignation is true, and if the franchise can motivate Kohli to take back captaincy, fans can well see Kohli leading Bangalore again.
