Babar Azam had a poor ODI World Cup 2023 campaign for Pakistan scoring only runs
Babar Azam had seen the PCB chairman in Lahore earlier today. Television footage had shown journalists and supporters hounding Babar’s car. This was when he drove away from the PCB office at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Zaka Ashraf had also met with head coach Grant Bradburn, club director Mickey Arthur, and others who were part of the team’s interim management committee, according to many reports. Ashraf was seen by former captain Younis Khan, as well as former fast bowlers Wahab Riaz as well as Sohail Tanvir, on Tuesday. The PCB initiated an inquiry into Pakistan’s World Cup performance and its preparations for the forthcoming Test series versus Australia.
Babar Azam posted a statement while announcing his decision to step down. He wrote, “I vividly remember the moment when I received the call from PCB to lead Pakistan in 2019. Over the past four years, I’ve experienced many highs and lows on and off the field but I wholeheartedly and passionately aimed to maintain Pakistan’s pride and respect in the cricket world.”
Azam added, “Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. It’s a difficult decision but I feel it is a right time for this call. I will continue to represent Pakistan as a player in all three formats. I am here to support the new captain and the team with my experience and dedication.”
The T20I opener wanted to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board as well as the Pakistan fans for their support throughout his tenure. He said, “I want to express my sincere thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board for entrusting me with this significant responsibility.”
“Like to express my gratitude to passionate Pakistan cricket fans” : Babar Azam
The right-handed batter spoke about Pakistan’s Number 1 ODI ranking. He discussed how it was a total team effort. He thanked the management, players and coaches as well.
He said, “Reaching the number 1 spot in the white ball format was a result of the collective efforts of players, coaches, and management but I’d like to express my gratitude to passionate Pakistan cricket fans for their unwavering support during this journey.”
