‘Bahar Karo isko.. cricket khelne aate hai ya showoff krne’ – Fans react angrily as Usman Khawaja to be given permission to play only if removes pro-Palestine slogans
The first Test between Australia vs Pakistan will start on December 14 in Perth.
Australia’s opening batter Usman Khawaja has decided to remove pro-Palestine slogans from his shoes ahead of the first Test against Pakistan. Ahead of the game, he came into the limelight for his sentiments for Palestinians. Since October 7 this year, the conflict between Israel and Palestine has worsened which has been going on since 1947. Meanwhile, the Apex Council’s regulation doesn’t allow for political messaging.
“Any clothing or equipment that does not comply with these regulations is strictly prohibited,” the regulations state. “In particular, no logo shall be permitted to be displayed on cricket clothing or cricket equipment, other than a national logo, a commercial logo, an event logo, a manufacturers logo, a player’s bat logo, a charity logo or a non-commercial logo as provided in these regulations.
Usman Khawaja is a great athlete but Cricket Australia can’t compromise on rules: Australia Sports Minister
“Usman Khawaja is a great athlete. Usman Khawaja is a great Australian, and he has every right to speak up on matters that are important to him.
“I think he has done it peacefully and respectfully, and as a way that he as an individual can express an individual opinion that doesn’t compromise the Australian cricket team’s obligations to the ICC.”
