‘Baarish ko he trophy dedo’ – Fans react as Durban Super Giants clinch crucial win over MI Cape Town via DLS Method
Durban Super Giants become the first team to win their game in this year’s SA20.
Following their defeat at the toss, MI Cape Town was sent to bat and sent on a flier. From the beginning, Ryan Rickelton lost control and smacked the ball all over the park. Rassie Van der Dussen had been playing as the protagonist, but Paul dismissed him to provide his side some breathing room. Brevis was unable to have an effect.
After making a short appearance, Connor Esterhuizen fell against the flow of the game. As Rickelton continued, a century was drawing near. He attempted to play a huge shot, but slowed down a little and perished. The visitors kept things going with a couple of huge strikes from Liam Livingstone.
Their captain, Keiron Pollard, gave his team the genuine boost with a stunning cameo that helped them beyond 200. With two wickets taken, Keemo Paul had been the most effective bowler for DSG, while the other bowlers were not particularly effective. An outstanding display at bat has helped MI to a huge score of 207. It wasn’t going to be a simple task for the hosts however it’s a belter of a surface that definitely kept them in the game.
Durban Super Giants register the very first win of SA20 2024
MI Cape Town started off beautifully as they were able to scalp two key wickets in the first three overs of the innings. Matthew Breetzke was the man taking the team forward for the first part of the innings.
After the loss of the third wicket, Henrich Klassen came to the fold. Klaasen delivered a magnificent knock to the crowd. With eight sixes and four fours in just 35 balls, he managed to score a crucial 85.
But the tide once again fell as a few wickets fell and DSG looked to be on the backfoot. After Klaasen’s dismissal, things looked to be picking up and the match was heading towards an exciting finish. MI Cape Town had a great chance to strike back against the lower order.
However, the rain returned to spoil the fans’ entertainment. The game had to be called off as the rain returned once again, however, there was a result this time around. The DLS method came into the picture and it gave the Durban Super Giants an 11-run victory.
