Asian Games 2022: China’s Yanni Wu apologises to Jyoti Yarraji after huge false start controversy
Chinese authorities initially disqualified Yarraji for a false start in 100m Hurdles.
Star India huddler Jyoti Yarraji was one of India’s biggest hopes for medals in the Asian Games 2022. She was a national record holder and a renowned athlete. However, just before the start of the race, Chinese authorities disqualified Yarraji for a false start. She, along with China’s Yanni Wu, faced the heat of an early start.
However, Yarraji stood up for herself and informed Chinese authorities that Yanni Wu was the real culprit. Despite her stand, authorities allowed her to race, but the results were put on hold until the review. In the end, Yarraji’s claims proved right, and she won the Silver Medal. In between, the Chinese athletes constantly accused Yarraji of an early start, which heated up the situation.
Now, days after the incident, Yanni Wu has reportedly apologised to Yarraji for her misinformation and misbehaviour. It’s worth noting that in the last two days, Yanni Wu has faced a lot of criticism on Chinese social media platforms. These harsh reactions have forced her to apologise to Yarraji. However, things are now cool and calm as Yarraji won the silver medal and led India to glory.
It was a horrible experience: Jyoti Yarraji
Earlier, after winning the medal, Yarraji spoke to the media and said that she had a horrible experience in Hangzhou. “It was a horrible experience. I just want to say that cheating should never be appreciated in any sport. After a lot of drama, I finally won the silver medal, and I am happy since this was my first Asian Games,” Yarraji said.
Meanwhile, speaking about the ongoing multi-sport event, India has assured a lot of medals on Day 10. The Indian team has earned at least three medals in archery. The Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams are set to face opponents in the semifinals. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led men’s cricket team is also set to face the semifinal challenge as they beat Nepal in the quarterfinals.
