In a rather surprising twist for all cricket fans, Afghanistan have defeated both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. On the back of their sensational run, Afghanistan have become the first team to qualify for the Super 4s. Match five of the Asia Cup will bring the two teams who were defeated by Afghanistan from Group B. Let’s look at all the details of the upcoming match.

Match 5: Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Preface

Sri Lanka, having played good cricket against Australia and Pakistan recently, were given a lesson by Afghanistan in the curtain raiser of the Asia Cup. The Dasun Shanaka-led side succumbed to the Afghanistan bowlers and faltered at just 105/10 in 19.4 overs.

Their bowling was equally poor as Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed 40 off just 18 deliveries to embarrass the five-time Asia Cup winners. Bangladesh were the second casualty of Afghanistan’s sensational run as they lost by seven wickets in the third match of the tournament. After bravely choosing to bat first, Bangladesh could only do marginally better than Sri Lanka as they put forth 127/7 against Afghanistan.

The result, however, stayed the same as Afghanistan reached the target with absolute ease in the end. It was Najibullah Zadran this time who had taken it upon himself to embarrass the opposition. He hit 43 runs in just 17 deliveries with the help of one four and six massive sixes to inflict pain on millions of Bangladeshi fans.

This will be a do-or-die match as any team that loses will be thrown out of the competition.
