Former Afghanistan cricketer Asghar Afghan is having a great time off the field as he’s turned into a cricket pundit. The Afghan star was all set to return to the field in a tournament organized for retired players this month. The 34-year-old has recently confirmed that he was all set to participate in the ongoing edition of the Legends League Cricket 2022. However, all didn’t go according to plan as he is yet to get his visa for visiting India.

According to Asghar, he had applied for a visa nearly six weeks ago for taking part in the competition. However, he is hopeful that he will get his visa soon and join his team India Capitals led by the two-time World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir.

“Applied my Indian visa almost 6 weeks ago to take part in @llct20 to represent @CapitalsIndia, unfortunately still didn’t get my Visa but still hopeful & as soon as I get my visa will join my team @SGanguly99 @JayShah @ianuragthakur @GautamGambhir @RaviShastriOfc @timesofindia,” his tweet read.

Meanwhile, the India Capitals are placed at the second position in the points table having won and lost one match each. One other match ended with no result. They have three points to their tally and a net run rate of 1.666 which separates them from the Bhilwara Kings, who are placed at the third position.

Asghar Afghan has represented Afghanistan in 114 One-Day Internationals and six Tests. He has scored 2,424 and 440 runs in both formats respectively. The middle-order batter has also graced the field in 75 T20Is scoring 1,382 runs.

Asghar Afghan, formerly known as Asghar Stanikzai, officially announced his retirement from international cricket after the end of Afghanistan’s 20-20 World Cup 2021 clash against Namibia on October 31 last year.

One of the highest points in Asghar Afghan’s illustrious cricketing career was when he was an integral member of the Afghanistan cricket team that won the silver medal in the 2010 edition of the Guangzhou Asian Games.
