Apex Cricket Council unveils game-changing adjustments in DRS rule ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

The Apex Cricket Council has also clarified the concussion replacement rule.

Ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, the Apex Cricket Council has introduced some new changes in how the game is played. Starting on December 12, 2023, there will be a significant adjustment in the Decision Review System (DRS) for stumping situations.

Now, when a team wants to review a caught-behind appeal after a stumping attempt, they must use a separate DRS option. Earlier, players like Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey would often use the review for caught-behind without using the team’s DRS option.

In this new rule, only side-on replays will be considered for stumping, and the umpires will not check for a snick. This means that teams cannot get a free review for other types of dismissals, like being caught behind, without specifically choosing a player review.

Concussion rules were also modified by the Apex Cricket Council

The Apex Cricket Council has also clarified the concussion replacement rule. If a player is replaced due to a concussion and they are not allowed to bowl at that time, the substitute player cannot bowl either.

Another change is the time set for on-field injury assessment and treatment, which is now limited to four minutes. This means that teams and players need to make decisions and complete treatments within this time frame.

Additionally, it’s important to note that the Indian Cricket Board has decided to continue some rules it introduced during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy last year. These include the ‘Dead Ball’ rule and a limit of two bouncers per over. The rules will be introduced to the Ranji Trophy 2024 starting on January 5th.

In summary, the Apex Cricket Council’s new rules aim to bring more clarity and fairness to the game, especially in situations like reviews and concussion replacements. These changes will impact how teams strategize and approach certain aspects of the game.
