ODI World Cup 2023
‘Andar se bohot khush hai ye’ – Fans react as Pat Cummins seems sad for England after their loss to Sri Lanka in ODI World Cup 2023
Australia are set to face New Zealand in their next game in the ODI World Cup 2023 on Saturday.
Defending champions England lost to Sri Lanka by eight wickets in Bengaluru on Thursday, suffering yet another crushing setback in the World Cup 2023. Now that they have lost four out of the last five games, the team’s prospects of advancing in the competition are seriously threatened.
The normally batter paradise M. Chinnaswamy Stadium saw England opt to bat, but they could only muster 156 runs. This is their lowest World Cup score since 2003 and the lowest ODI score ever at the ground. With 24.2 overs remaining, Sri Lanka easily defeated the opposition, due to spirited half-centuries by Pathum Nissanka (77*) as well as Sadeera Samarawickrama (65*).
Australia, on the other hand, has fared differently during the 2023 World Cup than their longtime rivals England. Despite having a difficult start to the season, losing their first two games against South Africa and India. Pat Cummins’ team pulled off an incredible comeback as they won their next three matches. They played these encounters against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands, and they are presently ranked fourth in the standings.
In the context of the tournament, Australia may have a lot riding on this game. But after England’s crushing loss to Sri Lanka, a reporter questioned Cummins about his thoughts on England’s elimination.
Additionally, despite the Australian captain’s insistence that it was disappointing to see England lose on Thursday. Pat Cummins had a big smile, which seemed to reflect the rivalry between the two titans of cricket.
“I think we didn’t really nail the style that we wanted to play” : Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins spoke to the reporters ahead of their ODI World Cup 2023 game. He said, “Our group’s big on talking about the style that we want to play, and I think in the first two games not only did we not win, but I think we didn’t really nail the style that we wanted to play.”
He added that, “I think in the last few games, you’ve seen us be a bit more aggressive – batting and bowling. Bowling – everyone’s been really open-minded, tried different things; trying bounces, different fields, one over spells, and it’s just been a real buy-in from the whole team, and yeah, it’s been fantastic last few games.”
