‘Pride of India’- Twitter lavishes massive praise on PV Sindhu as she win’s India’s 200th overall Gold at the Commonwealth Games
PV Sindhu’s Gold has propelled India to fourth on the medal tally with a total of 56 medals.
The Indian contingent has put the pedal to the metal in the last couple of days to win a hoard of medals for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022. PV Sindhu, India’s star shuttler added another to India’s rising medal tally in Birmingham on Monday.
Playing against Canada’s Michelle Li in the final of women’s Badminton singles event, the Indian badminton player came up with a dominating performance to clinch Gold at the CWG 2022. Sindhu defeated the Canadian counterpart in straight sets by 21-15, 21-13 to clinch her first Gold at the prestigious event.
This is her third medal at the Commonwealth Games. Earlier, she won Bronze at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Silver at 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she finally won the Gold that eluded her for a long time.
In the semi-final, Sindhu defeated Singapore’s Yeo Min by 21-19, 21-17 in just 49 minutes to reach the finals in Birmingham. She had been carrying a niggle in her Achilles for a couple of games now. In the semi-final, she played the entirety of the match with her left leg strapped. In the final also she showed signs of discomfort but still played through the injury to land a Gold medal for the country.
Despite a restriction in movement, the Indian star shuttler backed her technical abilities and produced high-quality shots to defeat a very good opponent in Michelle Li. Interestingly, this is India’s 200th Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Additionally, this is India’s 19th Gold medal at this year’s event. India now moves to fourth on the medals tally with a total of 56 medals. Apart from 19 Gold medals, India have 15 Silver and 22 Bronze medals. Australia, with a total of 174 medals, lead the chart with a massive 66 Gold medals in the bag. England with 168 and Canada with 92 are the next two on the tally.
PV Sindhu’s win after the Indian Women’s Cricket team’s loss to Australia in the final yesterday has given a little respite to the Indian fans. Naturally, Twitter was awash with fans congratulating and celebrating PV Sindhu’s win.

PV Sindhu
2014?
2018?
2022?It's remarkable that a player of PV Sindhu's calibre with multiple World and Olympic medals had never won a women's singles gold at Commonwealth Games. She corrects that at her 3 CWG beating Michelle Li 21-15, 21-13 in the final at Birmingham. pic.twitter.com/CeljX2c5bR
