India open their account with a Silver at Commonwealth Games 2022: Full Medals Tally on Day 2
India is currently ninth on the Medals Tally at Commonwealth Games 2022.
The highly anticipated 2022 Commonwealth Games finally got off with India going into the global event with a strong contingent. On the first day of CWG 2022, India came up with good performance in Badminton, Women’s hockey, table tennis and boxing. The biggest country in Commonwealth, however, had a disappointing start in Cricket, the Lawn bowl, swimming and triathlon.
Australia swept aside the competition on the first day of the mega event to win eight gold medals. The team from down under won five of seven gold medals available in swimming. The other three gold medals came from track cycling.
On day two of the CWG 2022, Madison de Rozario won another gold in the T53/54 Triathlon to take the Aussie medal tally to nine golds. With four Silver and four Bronze medals, Australia have won a total of 17 medals in just two days.
England and New Zealand are second on the list with three gold medals. England however just edges the Kiwis as they have more silver medals (6) compared to Kiwi’s three. England have won 12 medals in total. Meanwhile New Zealand have seven.
Scotland and Canada, with seven and four medals respectively, are placed fourth and fifth on the medals tally. Bermuda and Malaysia with one Gold each sit in a combined sixth position. Wales with one silver and one bronze is ahead of India.
Sanket Sargar opens India’s account
India have finally opened their account with a silver win in the 55kg Men’s weightlifting category. With a total lift of 248 kg (113+135), Indian weightlifter Sanket Sargar won Silver on day two of the Commonwealth Games.
Indian star weightlifter, Mirabai Chanu, will also be in action on day two and is expected to bring in medals for the country. Indian boxer, Lovlina Borgohain who won a Bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will also open her challenge for the top spot at the Commonwealth Games.
