Both teams fought well in the ODI series which ended in a draw
England and South Africa will lock horns with each other in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Country Ground in Bristol on July 27, 2022. Both teams fought well in the ODI series which ended in a draw, thanks to persistent rain during the third ODI. Talking about the T20I series, most of the players from both teams played each other in the 50-overs series.
Interestingly enough, both teams played their last T20I series against India. The Proteas had leveled the series although they were leading in initially by 2-0. On the other hand, the Three Lions had lost the series by 2-1 against the Men In Blue. Both teams will be looking to start afresh in the upcoming series.
Team News
England: The home team is coming off a rare home series loss against India in the shortest format. During that series, the team faltered across all departments of the game, except for fielding. However, they did manage to avoid the whitewash. In the upcoming series, they would love to do better in all facets of the game. Talking about their playing XI, only Adil Rashid could be the one change from their last series against Rohit Sharma’s Men.
Probable XI: Jason Roy, Jos Buttler (c/wk), Dawid Malan, Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Chris Jordan, Richard Gleeson, Reece Topley/Adil Rashid.
South Africa: David Miller will lead the side in this series as Temba Bavuma was ruled out before the start of the tour. Keshav Maharaj led the side in the ODI series. Meanwhile, they will be looking to solve some puzzles. During the India series, the team didn’t have enough runs from the number three and four batters. The likes of Rilee Rossouw, who has comeback from the Kolpak exile, and Rassie van der Dussen can provide good options.
Probable XI: Quinton de Kock (wk), Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, Rassie van der Dussen/Aiden Markram, David Miller (c), Heinrich Klassen, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada
