Twitter trolls Navjot Singh Sidhu after losing Punjab election

Published on

Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu was brutally trolled by the netizens as he lost the Punjab Legislative Assembly Elections 2022. Sidhu was contesting from Amritsar East against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Jeevan Jyot Kaur. This year, State Assembly Elections were conducted to decide which political party will rule in five states such as Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Goa. The next tenure for the respective governments will end in 2027.

Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is currently set to win in four states except for Punjab, where AAP is set to form a government. Talking about Punjab, the former India cricketer joined the Indian National Congress (INC) in 2017. He had been part of BJP from 2004 to 2017 and became a Rajya Sabha Member in 2016 but resigned the same year. In 2017, he was elected from the Amritsar East seat, from where he lost currently.

The 58-year-old became the Minister of Tourism and Local Bodies after winning. Two years later, he resigned from the post. In July last year, he was appointed as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Two months later, the former cricket commentator resigned but the decision was overturned by party high command. His stint with Congress has been a controversial one. In April 2019, he was barred by the Election Commission of India for 72 hours for violating the moral code of conduct. The same year, he criticized his party for mishandling a Sacrilege case.

Meanwhile, after losing the elections, he took to Twitter and accepted his defeat while congratulating the winner.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God …. Humbly accept the mandate of the people of Punjab …. Congratulations to Aap !!!” tweeted Sidhu post his defeat.
