Relief for Chennai as Deepak Chahar likely to return by mid-April – Reports
In what comes as a piece of great news for Chennai fans, star pacer Deepak Chahar is likely to join the franchise from mid-April. There were serious doubts about the availability of Deepak Chahar in the tournament after he sustained a quadriceps injury while playing in the third T20I against West Indies. The pacer hobbled off the field and didn’t complete his full quota of overs. Later, he was ruled out of the Sri Lanka series as well.
Chennai were sweating over Chahar’s fitness as they don’t have an apt replacement for him. However, as per a report in the Times of India, Chahar will not undergo surgery which would have ruled him out for the majority of the tournament. He is expected to be back on the field by mid-April. This is indeed very good news for Chennai. Chahar currently is doing rehab at the National Cricket Academy.
Chennai had acquired Chahar’s services for INR 14 crores. Meanwhile, the team has started practising for the mega event in Surat. The tournament will be played in Maharashtra but the team chose Surat as the practice venue as the wickets are pretty much the same as Maharashtra. Chennai will start the Indian T20 League 2022 against Kolkata.
They are placed in Group B, alongside Hyderabad, Bangalore, Punjab, and Gujarat.
