‘KKR ko harwane ka iraada hai’ – Fans react as Gautam Gambhir intends to leave politics to focus on cricket duties
Gautam Gambhir is currently working as the team mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders
Unexpectedly, MP Gautam Gambhir of the Bharatiya Janata Party has declared his intention to retire from active politics. To inform his fans and followers of the news, the former cricket player for East Delhi turned to Twitter. He stated that he wanted to concentrate on his cricket responsibilities, stating that he needed to refocus on the game he played with such enthusiasm prior to entering politics.
The former left-handed batter took to social media to announce this news. He wrote, “I have requested Hon’ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind.”
Since joining the BJP in March 2019, Gambhir has emerged as one of the party’s most well-known figures in Delhi. During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he ran for and won the East Delhi constituency by a wide majority of 6,95,109 votes.
The news that Mr. Gambhir would not receive a ticket during the next 2024 elections coincides with his plan to step down from politics. Heavyweights including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, the home minister, are anticipated to be on the BJP’s initial list of over 100 candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
The party convened lengthy overnight sessions in Delhi, notably one that started at 11 p.m. on Thursday and ended at 4 a.m. on Friday, hosted by the prime minister inside his Delhi home.
Gautam Gambhir prioritises Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2024
During the Lucknow Super Giants’ first two IPL seasons (2022 and 2023), Gambhir served as their mentor. When the former India opener rejoins KKR, it will be a kind of reunion.
Gambhir has captained the team in 122 games from 2011 to 2017, making him the most successful captain in the history of the team. Gambhir is still one of the most accomplished skipper in IPL history, having guided the team to two victories in 2012 and 2014.
