The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to start on March 22 and the first match is between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai. There are a lot of overseas players who are looking forward to participating in the cash-rich tournament held in India. Nevertheless, this time the New Zealand vs Pakistan series will start on April 14, which will collide with the IPL dates.
Some key Kiwi players will be missing the series due to their commitment to the IPL teams. Players like Glenn Phillips and Lockie Ferguson are playing for some of the best franchises of the league and they have shown their interest in the tournament ahead of their national duties.
Let’s check out the five key Kiwi players who are missing the Pakistan tour:
5. Rachin Ravindra
Rachin Ravindra is one of those players who is part of the most successful IPL franchise, CSK. Also, this is the Kiwi player’s first IPL season as he is yet to make his debut. Keeping his current performance in mind, he has chosen to participate in the tournament leaving his country aside to get some experience. Moreover, if he gets an opportunity to play for the CSK team, he’ll also get a chance to play under the captainship of MS Dhoni which is a huge plus point for his career. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether he’ll make his debut this year considering CSK’s star-studded batting line-up.
4. Trent Boult
One of the best bowlers in the World, Trent Boult is also missing the Pakistan series ahead of the IPL. He has been a permanent member of the IPL and has played for several teams including Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. This year too, he’ll be playing for the Rajasthan Royals who will be looking forward to making a good impact in the team.
3. Kane Williamson
IPL’s one of the best batters, Kane Williamson, has been an integral part of the IPL for a few years now. He has played for several teams including Sunrisers Hyderabad. Just like the last two years, Williamson will play for the Gujarat Titans. However, this time his workload will increase as the GT team is filled with young players led by Shubman Gill.
2. Daryl Mitchell
New Zealand’s newcomer Daryl Mitchell is ready to set foot in the IPL with the Chennai Super Kings. He hasn’t played the IPL yet and will be looking forward to starting his IPL career under MS Dhoni. Mitchell has had an amazing career for the New Zealand team so far and if he continues his form and momentum, it will be great for the tournament and the CSK team as well.
1. Devon Conway
The CSK team is one of the most successful teams in the IPL and Devon Conway’s contribution in the last 2-3 years has been quite crucial. Along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Conway has given some solid partnerships which has helped CSK get to a good and challenging total. Moreover, when it comes to run chases, both of them were unbeatable. Thus, Conway has left his national team to play in the IPL.
