After he retires, renowned Australian batter David Warner thinks Marcus Harris of Victoria would be the best man to take his place at the top of the order for the Australian Test squad.

Warner will retire from Test cricket following the series’ last match versus Pakistan in Sydney. Who would succeed him has been the subject of much speculation, with names including Cameron Bancroft as well as Cameron Green turning up.

David Warner, however, gave an explanation of why he believes Marcus Harris and himself have a similar game strategy in an interview with Fox Cricket on Tuesday.  He said, “It is a tough one (and) it is obviously up to the selectors. But from my position, I feel like the person who has worked their backside off and has been there for a while in the background (is Harris).”

The Delhi Capitals opener added, “Harry’s been that person who has toured (and) he scored that 100 the other day and missed out in another couple of games but he’s always been the person who’s next in line. So if the selectors show their faith in him, then I’m sure he’ll come out and play the way he does. You know, he’s not too dissimilar to me.”

David Warner discusses significance of support from team management

Even though he had not yet participated in a single first-class match, David Warner himself represented Australia in his very first match back in 2009. He believes that teenagers should have the same support that he received in his formative years. The opener suggested that they be given a lengthy rope that can help them get over their fear of failing.

David Warner said, “I have always played the way that I have to entertain and to put bums on seats. I think that is important, giving back and making sure the fans are getting what they paid for. How are we going to find these guys coming through? You’re going to find them in the Big Bash.”
