The match turned out to be a memorable day at the office for the Brisbane Heat, as they secured a commanding victory over the Glenn Maxwell-led Melbourne Stars, triumphing by a substantial margin of 103 runs.
Colin Munro remained the Star for Brisbane in the opener
The standout performance of the day came from Colin Munro, whose sensational innings of 99 runs off 61 balls propelled the Heat to an imposing total of 214/3 in their allotted 20 overs. Munro’s display included an impressive array of 9 fours and 5 sixes, leaving the fans at the Gabba in awe.
In pursuit of the challenging target of 215, the Melbourne Stars struggled as they were bowled out for a mere 111 runs, with none of their batsmen managing to reach a half-century. Notably, key players from the World Cup-winning squad, Glenn Maxwell and Marnus Stoinis, failed to make a significant impact.
Maxwell, both with bat and ball, could only contribute 23 runs while conceding 44 runs from his three overs. Stoinis, although not tasked with bowling, could only muster 2 runs with the bat. The bowling prowess of Mitchell Swepson (3 wickets), Xavier Bartlett (2 wickets), and Michael Neser (2 wickets) played a pivotal role in dismantling the Stars’ innings, wrapping it up in just 15.1 overs.
The comprehensive victory for the Brisbane Heat not only showcased their dominance on the field but also reignited the excitement among fans, thanks in no small part to the return of the Rocketman in this electrifying encounter at the Gabba.
