The Village Series Review – Arya’s film lacks perfection in script, budget, and making
‘The Village’ Series Review: ‘The Village,’ Arya’s first OTT series, is based on a graphic novel of the same name. The horror thriller revolves around a haunted village and its haunting past. The teaser and trailer for Milind Rau’s series ‘The Village’ piqued the audience’s interest. It alluded to the series being a social commentary on environmental conservation and superstitions. The director also promised a lot of gore. Was ‘The Village‘ able to live up to the hype? Let us investigate!

Series Review:
In terms of acting, Arya appears out of place in the series, particularly in emotional scenes. The performances of Aadukalam Naren and Muthukumar, who played Shakthivel and Karunagam, respectively, hold the show together. Arjun Chidambaram gives a good performance as a spoilt brat and a cunning businessman. ‘The Village’ has a lot of gore, as promised. Slashed intestines, bodies cut in half, intestines on the floor, gory-looking men, and so on. But you are not terrified or disgusted. They start to resemble cartoon characters after a while.
You laugh when director Milind Rau shows us the Kattiyal forest where Farhan and his team were asked to extract substances. Because the forest resembles what ‘Avatar’ would look like if it were made on a shoestring budget. The trees are brightly coloured!
Farhan’s mercenary organization is also ineffective. His team of glum faces doesn’t inspire much hope. Similarly, the flashback options address oppression, discrimination, corporate takeovers of villages, and health risks. These are all topics that have been shown in countless Tamil films, and it appears that no effort was made to add new ideas to the done-to-death story.
The plot of ‘The Village’ appears to be out of date and redundant. There’s never a desire to binge-watch the six episodes, which each last 35-45 minutes. Despite its good intentions, the second half of the story is overly long and lacks substance. If Milind Rau had spent more time on the screenplay, ‘The Village’ could have been a good horror thriller.
