‘Rohit ki bhi aayegi thode saal baad’ – Fans react as Sachin Tendulkar’s statue gets inaugurated at Wankhede stadium
Sachin Tendulkar’s statue was innaugrated earlier today with some top celebrities also being present for the ceremony.
On November 1st in Mumbai, the statue of Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar was erected. This makes him immortalised within his home venue, Wankhede stadium.
Originally, the structure was supposed to be revealed in April to commemorate Tendulkar’s 50th birthday. But it had to be postponed because the construction still required a few final touches to be completed.
The monument was created by famous Ahmednagar painter-sculptor Pramod Kamble as a memorial to Tendulkar’s remarkable career and commitment to Indian cricket. Tendulkar is seen in the sculpture doing one of his trademark cricket strikes. It is located next to the famous Sachin Tendulkar stand inside the stadium, which makes sense given Tendulkar’s close ties to that region.
The iconic chanting of “Sachin, Sachin” erupted across the stadium when the statue was eventually unveiled to the delight of the crowd. At 22 feet high, the statue represents a massive construction. Sachin Tendulkar is playing the iconic lofted shot in the statue. This shot of his has been in the hearts of millions of Indians around the world.
The statue’s unveiling took place ahead of the India vs. Sri Lanka ODI World Cup 2023 match. This is kind of a re-match of the iconic World Cup final which also took place at the Wankhede Stadium in 2011. The fact that Tendulkar’s final World Cup match at Wankhede Stadium happened to be the ODI World Cup 2011 final vs Sri Lanka gave the occasion considerably more significance.
Who all attended the statue inaugration ceremony?
A number of dignitaries, including the chief minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, the deputy chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah, and the treasurer, Ashish Shelar, as well as members of the Mumbai Cricket Association, including president Amol Kale, secretary Ajinkya Naik, along with other members of the apex council, attended the statue’s unveiling.
The former Indian batter attended the ceremony inside Wankhede Stadium to witness the unveiling of the monument, together with his wife, Anjali, and daughter Sara.
