India vs Australia 2023
‘Abhi mazaa aayega na bhidu’ – Fans react as Australia legend calls Shardul Thakur ‘bits and pieces’ player
Earlier this month, before the start of the Asia Cup 2023, former India batter Gautam Gambhir also slammed Shardul Thakur.
Ahead of the prestigious ODI World Cup 2023, Team India is looking settled in every aspect. From batters to bowlers, everyone is doing their job nicely and making the team victorious against Australia in the ongoing three-match ODI series. However, bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been mediocre with both bat and ball.
Despite being one of the biggest Wicket takers for India in recent years, Shardul has failed to deliver in the Australia series. His below-par performance has attracted a lot of criticism before the ODI World Cup. Recently to join the list is former Australia skipper Michael Vaughan. Vaughan slammed Shardul and called him a bits-and-pieces cricketer. After Shardul’s expensive spell in Mohali and Indore, Vaughan took him handy.
He said, “Shardul Thakur is a bits-and-pieces cricketer. He is yet to become a full cricketer.” However, his remarks didn’t go well with the fans, as they are backing Shardul. It’s worth noting that in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023, Shardul has taken five wickets in four games. He has provided crucial breakthroughs against Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Shardul Thakur has been on the receiving end!
Earlier this month, before the start of the Asia Cup 2023, former India batter Gautam Gambhir also slammed Shardul Thakur. Gambhir had called him a bits-and-pieces cricketer while analysing the squad with official broadcasters. Gambhir had also suggested to team management that they should field three proper pacers instead of Shardul.
It’s worth noting that Shardul has been India’s highest wicket-taker in ODIs since 2019. He has been phenomenal in the middle overs with his amazing skills. However, the biggest concern with his bowling is his very high economy rate. Shardul’s wicket-taking abilities are being questioned due to his lack of control over his run rate. Despite this, Indian team management will need to persist with him if they look to go with an extra batting option.
Here is how fans react to Michael Vaughan’s comments on Shardul Thakur:
