Star India batter Prithvi Shaw is constantly struggling to make his way into the international team. Despite his decent batting performances in domestic cricket, Shaw has fallen way back in the pecking order. However, Shaw recently joined Northamptonshire for the London One-Day Cup. After playing some crucial innings and smashing two centuries, Shaw picked up a knee injury.

Now, some news reports suggest that Shaw might miss the majority of the upcoming domestic season due to the injury. He is set to miss the upcoming limited-overs tournaments. It’s worth noting that after consulting a surgeon in London, Shaw returned to the National Cricket Academy for further assessments. NCA staff is currently considering all available options for his recovery, with surgery being the last option.

Despite his injury, the Mumbai Cricket Association is set to wait and watch for his recovery. Shaw might not participate in the limited-over tournaments starting with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on October 16. However, MCA will keep an eye on his fitness and will look to get him in the squad for the Ranji Trophy. The four-day tournament is set to start in January 2024.

Prithvi Shaw had a blistering season in England

Before picking up an injury Prithvi Shaw had a blistering season in the London One Day Cup. He was the highest run scorer of the tournament with 429 runs in four innings. He also smashed a record-breaking double-century against Somerset. In his innings, Shaw scored 244 runs off 153 balls, becoming the second-highest run-scorer in limited-over formats for India. India skipper Rohit Sharma leads the chart with his 264 runs against Sri Lanka.

It’s worth noting that earlier this year, Shaw was called up for India’s T20I series against New Zealand. However, he didn’t get a chance to play in any games and stayed on the bench. Meanwhile, his rough patch continued until the Indian Premier League in 2023. In the prestigious tournament, he scored just 106 runs in 14 games, an average of less than seven. It will be a big setback for his cricket career if he fails to play in the upcoming Ranji Trophy.
