Asia Cup 2023
‘Kal bhi baarish he honi hai’ – Fans react to India vs Pakistan Super Four match being called-off following persistent rains
The constant rains in Colombo on Sunday has caused the thrilling match involving India and Pakistan to be called off for the second time during the 2023 Asia Cup. At the renowned R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the rain gods intervened when India, captained by Rohit Sharma, had 147 for two after 24.1 overs.
At Colombo, Pakistan’s elite bowling arsenal was destroyed by batters Rohit Sharma as well as Shubman Gill after Pakistan won the toss and invited India to bat. In the Super 4 game between the two longtime rivals in the Asia Cup, the Indian openers hammered half-centuries to contribute 121 runs for the first wicket.
Ironically, Shubman Gill was smashing Shaheen Shah Afridi like anything, who originally dropped him off during Naseem Shah’s opening over. As India attacked, Gill, who has had an amazing year in ODIs, went off against Afridi. While Rohit Sharma battled to hold onto the wicket against Naseem Shah at the other end.
What will happen if no more play is possible in the India-Pakistan match?
The game will continue on Monday with the same score after Sunday’s play was halted by the bad weather. The India vs. Pakistan game must be finished in the allotted two days, according to the match authorities.
The amount of overs for the Super 4 encounter may be reduced in order to ensure that it is finished by Monday night. On Monday, there is also a chance of significant rain, which might cause delays.
It should be remembered that in order to get a score in the two innings, at least 20 overs must be bowled. On the day of the match, the game hours may also be increased by 90 minutes.
India and Pakistan will split the match points if the Super 4 game between the two sides turns into a washout on the reserve day. Earlier in the continental event, rain at the Pallekele Stadium forced the cancellation of India’s much anticipated Group A match.
