One of the most significant players who didn’t make the team was the left-arm spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, but India chose to go with Axar Patel. The Men in Blue have another potential batting option in Axar, who has excelled in Test matches.

Chahal has excelled for Team India, at least in white-ball cricket, but has been overlooked twice in the last three big international competitions. India has made an effort to diversify its batting lineup by including more all-rounders than specialists.

2) Shikhar Dhawan

The 37-year-old left-handed batter Shikhar Dhawan was not able to realise his goal of competing in the 2023 World Cup at home. Dhawan was not selected for the West Indies series despite having a stellar record of 167 ODIs as well as 6793 runs.

He took part in the ODI World Cup in 2015, however, an injury prevented him from taking part in all of the 2019 tournament’s games. His most recent ODI outing for India occurred in a game against Bangladesh in Chittagong in December 2022. His poor performances during the late part of 2022 led to his drop from the Indian team.

3) Sanju Samson

Ajit Agarkar had previously made it known that the side for the ODI World Cup would resemble the team for the Asia Cup in 2023. The Asia Cup team, on the other hand, was a 17-person group, with Samson chosen as Rahul’s backup. Two players from the starting lineup will be forced to sit out since the ODI World Cup roster only has 15 players.

KL Rahul has been declared fully fit by the National Cricket Academy and is one of the key wicket-keeper batters in the ODI World Cup squad for Team India. Therefore, with the presence of Ishan Kishan as well as KL Rahul, it was inevitable that Sanju Samson had to miss out of the squad.
