The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and Delhi Capitals (DC), the IPL side, are planning to work together to upgrade and maintain the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The stadium serves as the franchise’s home venue for both the IPL and the Women’s Premier League (WPL). This is the first time a team has assumed responsibility for venue upkeep during non-IPL seasons. Prior to the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Arun Jaitley Stadium was previously allocated money totaling 50 crore for redevelopment.

The Delhi Capitals will also contribute an extra 75 crore towards the stadium’s renovation. Parth Jindal, a co-owner of DC, and Rohan Jaitley, president of the DDCA, are said to have spoken about the agreement, with a focus on enhancing the overall crowd experience.

The source told the Times of India about the plans for upgradation as he said, “There have been discussions to set up two classy hospitality boxes in the stadium. The idea is to set up temporary boxes by the World Cup and finish the project by the next IPL. The stadium has received many complaints with regard to crowd experience during matches. DDCA and Capitals have put that as a priority.”

They further spoke about how the European football powerhouses maintain the stadiums and wanted to follow a similar structure. He said, “Football stadiums in Europe are managed by corporates to maintain facilities for their club teams. This move will be somewhat in that direction. Now with the Women’s Premier League set to be played in the home-and-away format, Capitals will need the stadium for more than just two months of IPL.”

Sourav Ganguly, the director of cricket for the Delhi Capitals, was keen regarding its decision to invest in improving the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The worn-out state of the grounds during the IPL is another issue that keeps being raised, even by DC captain David Warner.

The insider claimed that the Capitals administration will investigate the matter with the DDCA within the near future. They said, “DDCA doesn’t have another ground and it has to organize men’s and women’s camps at the stadium besides organizing matches. The Capitals management will be coordinating with DDCA to manage the load on the stadium in the future.”
