Kane Williamson confident of recovering before Indian T20 League 2022
Kane Williamson has been suffering from an elbow injury which forced him to miss out on some important games in the recent past. He missed the first four games of the previous edition of the Indian T20 League, and also a few international matches. He missed the series against India and then against Bangladesh as well. Williamson will miss out on the series against South Africa as well.
The Kiwi skipper has said that he is hopeful of getting back on the field before the start of ITL 2022 and the series against the Netherlands, which can start before the ITL commences.
ESPNcricinfo quoted him saying, “Last (IPL) season was an example as well, where I wasn’t involved initially and it was elbow-related as well. The franchise was great and supportive of it. I’m optimistic that it will continue to improve. The (T20) format, in particular, is slightly more friendly to managing the load. So, we will wait and see, but it is taking steps forward, which is positive.”
He added that New Zealand Cricket and Hyderabad are aware of his situation and have been supportive of the time he has taken to recover. “All the conversations, certainly with New Zealand cricket and Sunrisers who are aware of this… I’ve had it (elbow injury) for a long time now, so this period of time is to try and get it right. It is progressing… there’s still quite a bit of time between now and then, or now and some of the Netherlands games perhaps. There’s nothing definite, but I’m hopeful that I’ll be back on the field as soon as possible,” he added
Willamson informed of speaking to players like Sachin Tendulkar, Steve Smith, and Manish Pandey, who have suffered from elbow injuries. He also said that surgery will be his last resort. He admitted that this has been the most frustrating time in his entire career.
