‘Adab se nahin, gundai se haaraya hai’ – Fans praise Lucknow Super Giants as they thrash Punjab Kings in IPL 2023
In the previous game between both teams, PBKS won a thriller in Lucknow early this month.
In the 38th match of the ongoing IPL 2023, Punjab Kings hosted Lucknow Super Kings in the reverse fixture between both teams. Ahead of the game, the home team was coming off a win. On the other hand, the Super Giants were coming off an agonizing loss against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, in the game, the 2014 winners won the toss and elected to bat first.
The way the Lucknow side batted in the innings, it looked like they wanted to prove a point. After their skipper, KL Rahul got out early, Kyle Mayers scored a half-century in 20 balls inside the powerplay. After Mayers wicket in the sixth over, the likes of Marcus Stonis (72) and Ayush Badoni (43) put together 91 runs in 6.4 overs. Both batters carried on from where Mayers left off in the powerplay.
After this, Nicholas Pooran (45) and Deepak Hooda took the team to 257/5, the second-highest team total in the history of the IPL The Kings bowlers had a forgettable day.
Punjab Kings failed to even come close to the target
In reply, the Red Brigade had a poor start as they lost their opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh inside the powerplay. The likes of Atharva Taide (66) and Sikandar Raza (36) put together 76 runs in 8.1 overs. Despite the partnership, it was pretty clear that the team isn’t reaching the target. They both got in the 12th and 13 overs.
The middle-order batters such as Liam Livingstone (23), Sam Curran (21), and Jitesh Sharma (24) started well but couldn’t score big. In the last couple of overs, the team lost their remaining four wickets and got all-out on 201, losing the game by 56 runs. With this win, the Lucknow-based side has jumped to number two in the points table as they have improved their Net Run Rate (0.841).

Punjab are doing an excellent job in this chase, but the target is too big to be chased down that easily. Such targets are chased in those once-in-a-lifetime matches for any player or team, and it indeed isn't that one day for Punjab. #PBKSvsLSG #IPL2023 pic.twitter.com/l5LYQML14n
