‘Surgical strike kiya hai ladkon ne’ – Fans praise Punjab Kings as they beat Mumbai Indians at their home ground in IPL 2023
Punjab Kings won their first match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede after 2017.
Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings locked horns in the 31st game of the ongoing IPL 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Ahead of the game, the home team was coming off a hat trick of wins. On the other hand, the Kings lost their home game against Royal Challengers Bangalore a few days back. Meanwhile, MI won the toss and elected to bowl first.
After losing the wicket of Matthew Short (11) in the third over, the scoring rate of the team increased. The likes of Prabhsimran Singh (26) and Atharva Taide (29) took on the Blue Brigade’s bowling and put together 47 runs in 4.1 overs. After the wicket of Singh, the team got into trouble after losing two wickets in the 10th over and was reduced to 83/4.
The likes of stand-in skipper Sam Curran and Harpreet Singh Bhatia played steadily for the next five overs. In the 16th over, they scored 31 runs and changed the course of the innings. Curran (55), Bhatia (41), and Jitesh Sharma (25) helped the team reach a mammoth total of 214/8. In the last six overs, the team scored 109 runs, losing only four wickets, which turned out to be the difference.
Mumbai Indians tried well but fell short in the end
in reply, the five-time winners lost the wicket of Ishan Kishan (1) in the second over. Despite the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma (44) and Cameron Green (67) hitting boundaries on occasions, they were lacking behind in the required run rate. At one stage, the team managed 95/2 losing the wicket of Sharma in the 11th over.
Suryakumar Yadav (57) and Green put together 75 runs in just six overs to keep the team in the chase. Nathan Ellis took the wicket of Green in the 16th over and then, Yadav got out to a brilliant catch from Atharva Taide in the 18th over. This turned ut to be a turning point with Arshdeep Singh taking two wickets in the final over to defend the run. The 2014 finalists won the game by 13 runs.

Well done, #ArshdeepSingh! It's impressive to see that Punjab has a strong record against Mumbai, having won 15 out of their 30 matches played against each other. This makes for an exciting matchup. #MIvPBKS #TATAIPL

A total of 214 with a top score of 55 was brilliant from #PunjabKings in that everyone contributed and got going. 96 from 5 at the end the clincher. And surely, Arshdeep is the best death bowler in the league. So calm, so relaxed….and so skilful with yorkers

Is it a first in the history of cricket that stumps have been broken on two consecutive deliveries?

I want to know if Punjab’s fans are more happy or CSK and RCB fans combined.

Cost of one LED stump is around 24 lakh rupees. Arshdeep Singh is legend. He broke two. #IPL2023 #MIvsPBKS pic.twitter.com/WqRzqRWDBf

Green gotta find something idk what but slowing down won’t help. Two knocks from him but I am still dicey about him.
Sachin sir praised his previous knock but I beg to differ even today.
