Chasing a target of 186 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League 2023 required Mumbai Indians to get a strong start in the powerplay. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided them with exactly that. While Kishan played a quickfire knock, Rohit supported him well with a couple of big hits.
However, the team skipper did not last long as he lost his wicket to Suyash Sharma in the 5th over of the innings. Suyash bowled a delivery in front of the stumps, and Rohit hit a punchy drive and attempted to loft the ball. Umesh Yadav moved to his left at mid-off and dove for a spectacular catch. This spectacular catch startled everyone as Rohit looked prepared to take on bowlers and give Mumbai a good start in the mammoth chase. Umesh Yadav’s incredible catch has gone viral on the internet.

Earlier in the game, KKR could not get off to a good start with the bat, losing their first wicket in the second over. However, Venkatesh Iyer came to Kolkata’s rescue after that, holding on to one end for the visitors.
He has been in fantastic form this season, continuing his heroics against Mumbai. The left-handed batter did not have adequate support from the batters on the other end, but that did not deter him from scoring the second century of the season.
He was the only KKR batter to score a boundary in the match for the longest time. Iyer dominated the match, smashing his first IPL century in 49 balls. Interestingly, this is only KKR’s second IPL century. The first came from Brendon McCullum’s bat in the IPL’s inaugural match in 2008.
After scoring 104 runs in 51 balls, Iyer was ultimately dismissed by Riley Meredith in the 18th over of the game. In their allotted 20 overs, the Men in Purple and Gold scored 185/6.
