‘Sirf season naya hai, fitrat wahi purani hai’- Fans in awe of Jos Buttler as he smashes fastest fifty in Indian T20 League 2023
Jos Buttler won the Orange Cap last year with more than 800 runs to his name.
England and Rajasthan player, Jos Buttler has started the ongoing Indian T20 League 2023 season where he left off last year. In the 15th season, he amassed 863 runs including four hundreds. Buttler equaled the record of Virat Kohli in terms of centuries in a single season. Seven years ago, the former Bangalore and India skipper scored four hundreds but amassed 973 runs.
However, Jos managed to break David Warner (848) that the latter made in 2016. That year, the Aussies led the Hyderabad side and won their maiden title. Meanwhile, coming back to the ongoing game against Hyderabad, Buttler has carried on from where he left off last year. In the game, stand-in skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the toss and elected to bowl first. Little did he know that the decision will prove a disaster.
After playing three dot balls first up, the right-hander opened his account with a triple under the scorching heat of Hyderabad. On the first ball of the third over, the two-time World Cup winner hit his first six over deep midwicket nonchalantly. In the next over, he welcomed India all-rounder, Washington Sundar with two towering sixes. T Natarajan, who is playing the game after a long injury layoff, was welcomed with four fours in the fifth over of the innings.
In the last over of the powerplay, the wicketkeeper batter hit three fours and reached his fifty in just 20 balls. In the same over, Fazalhaq Farooqi had the last laugh as he castled England’s white-ball captain.
We did well last year but it is important to start fresh: Jos Buttler
“We had a really good last year but it is very much about starting fresh. It is about playing what is in front of us and focussing on the here and now. He (Holder) brings some good balance with the bat and the ball – it is fantastic to have in T20 cricket. The Impact Player rule adds another dynamic. Disappointing for him (Prasidh Krishna) to be injured but it gives someone else an opportunity to step up.
(On importance of playing spin) Very important. It has been a prevalent part in T20 cricket wherever you play so it is exciting to play in different venues and in different venues – that is part of what makes the ITL special,” Jos Buttler said before the game.

Jos Buttler is a rare breed and a colloseum of talent. Conspicuously the most versatile new generation cricketer in the world. He is aplomb, temerarious, boisterous, voracious and cantankerously intrepid. pic.twitter.com/uE63UrJdRR

A clash between the two most potent bowling units in the tournament. Can Jos Buttler repeat his heroics from last season? Also, watch out for Harry Brook.
