Ben Stokes, the Chennai all-rounder, wasted no time in getting ready for the Indian T20 League 2023 on the same day he joined the squad in Chennai. On Friday, March 24, the England Test captain batted at the centre pitch and sent many balls across the ropes.

Stokes faced throw downs and fast bowling from net bowlers, with the goal of clearing the boundaries on every ball. On Twitter, the Chennai franchise shared a video of the left-handed batter hitting straight boundaries. He smashed the balls into the stands in the video that has now gone viral.

Stokes had opted out of the Indian T20 League 2022 and thus did not register for the auction, preferring to focus on Test cricket following England’s Ashes debacle. In 2021, he missed the first half of the season due to a finger injury sustained during one of the games. He later opted out of the tournament’s UAE leg due to a mental health break from cricket.

Stokes also stated that he will miss games in the later stages of the 2023 season to return to England for the one-off Test match against Ireland before the start of the Ashes.”Yes, I’ll play,” Stokes had told reporters after England’s win against New Zealand in the first Test when asked if he will play the Ireland Test. “I’ll be making sure that I give myself enough time to get back and play that (Ireland) game.”

Chennai had begun training for the 16th season of the Indian T20 League a few weeks ago, with captain MS Dhoni among those present. With the addition of Stokes and the likely return of Deepak Chahar, Chennai will look to rebound from their disastrous 2022 season, in which they finished ninth in the table with four wins in 14 games, and add a fifth title to their name.
