‘Mat karo shadiyaa, please’ – Twitter trolls Indian Cricket Board as they fail to find a venue for WTL auction due to wedding season
The preparations for the Women’s T20 League’s much-anticipated inaugural season are currently in full swing.
The preparations for the Women’s T20 League‘s much-anticipated inaugural season are currently in full swing. The auction was originally scheduled to take place in the first week of February, ahead of the competition. However, due to the ongoing wedding season in India, the Indian Cricket Board is having difficulty finding a convenient hotel to hold the auction, so it has been postponed.
The five owners of the team that will compete in the upcoming tournament were recently announced by the apex cricket board. The next big event is an auction. The WTL will begin in the first week of March, with the player auction taking place in the second week of February.
However, the Indian Cricket Board had planned the auction for the first week of this month but had to postpone it due to the ongoing wedding season in India to the second week of this month. The auction date has not yet been set.
The marriage season in India peaks in February, and Indian Cricket Board managers are having difficulty booking a hotel. Nonetheless, they’ve narrowed it down to two hotels: one in Delhi for February 11 and another in Mumbai for February 13.
Officials of the WPL team said, “The BCCI has shortlisted February 11 (Saturday) and 13 (Monday), but the 13th is most likely the one that most franchises are comfortable with.” He added, “We need to give the teams time to plan for the auction.”
The Women’s T20 League will feature teams from Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, and Bengaluru. The tournament will take place after the Women’s 20-20 World Cup concludes and before the start of the Indian T20 League in 2023.
In the meantime, fans on Twitter were taken aback to learn of this development. Many fans questioned how it was possible with so many options and the Indian Cricket Board being one of the most powerful sporting bodies.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Women’s T20 League’s news

BCCI is not able to book hotels for the WPL because of the wedding season. High time they should invest in hotels . They can afford 2-3 hotels around major venues . Revenue in off season as well , sports bars etc . On priority plz upgrade Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. @BCCI
