‘Chal-Chal, tere se darta nahin hun’ – Fans heap praise on India as they clean sweep New Zealand in three-match ODI series
India cleanly swept New Zealand for the first time since December 2010.
India and New Zealand locked horns in the last game of the three-match ODI series in Indore. Ahead of the game, the visitors needed to win the game to salvage the pride as they were trailing the series by 2-0. On the other hand, the Men In Blue was looking to clean sweep the opposition for the first time after December 2010.
Meanwhile, in the game, the Blackcaps won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Kiwi skipper Tom Latham cited ‘Short boundaries and dew’ in the second innings. However, the decision started proving wrong for the two-time ODI World Cup finalist as India skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started belting the NZ bowlers. Both players scored a century each.
Also, they stitched a partnership of 212 runs in just 26 overs. At one stage, the home team was looking set for over 400 runs on the board. After 37 overs, the team had amassed 267/2. However, the team had a collapse as they lost four wickets for 57 runs. At this stage, the team needed their lower order to come good. The likes of Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur stitched a partnership of 48 runs for the seventh wicket.
The former scored a fifty and the Rohit Sharma-led side amassed 385/9.
Devon Conway’s hundred couldn’t win the game for New Zealand
In reply, the Tom Latham-led side had a poor start as Finn Allen got on the second ball of the innings. At this stage, Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls stitched a partnership of 106 runs. The latter was trapped lbw by Kuldeep Yadav. Between the 26th to 28th overs, Shardul Thakur took three wickets to keep his side in the game.
Conway scored 138 before getting caught by Rohit Sharma off Umran Malik. Despite this, the 20-20 World Cup 2021 finalists were in the hunt as Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner were batting. However, Ishan Kishan stumping out Bracewell pretty much ended the game. After this, India bowled out New Zealand for 295, winning the game by 90 runs.
