1 Fastest to become No 1 batter in ODI

After making his international debut in ODIs on 23rd December 2004, MS Dhoni took only 42 innings to rise to the top of the ODI batters rankings. He became the fastest player to achieve the milestone, eclipsing the legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting.

Apart from giving sleepless nights to many top bowlers, Dhoni was a nightmare for any batter looking to leave the crease with him behind the stumps. If anybody dared to step outside and failed to hit the ball, his game was over right away as ‘Mahi’ gave no chance whatsoever with his lightning-fast stumpings. The former India captain has the most number of stumpings in international cricket with 195 dismissals to his name in 538 matches.
The wicketkeeper batter once took just 0.08 seconds to stump West Indies batsman Keemo Paul back in 2018.

MS Dhoni was hailed as the man with Midas touch as India enjoyed a golden period under his captaincy. He led the ‘Men-in-Blue’ to lift the first-ever 20-20 World Cup in 2007. India won the coveted ‘Test mace’ for the first time in 2010 for finishing as the top-ranked team in the Test rankings under MS Dhoni.
Dhoni further ended the 28-year-long wait for the ODI World Cup trophy in 2011 guiding India to victory in the final with his stupendous knock of 91 off 79 balls. The Ranchi-born cricketer added another feather to his cap as he led a young team India to a Champions Trophy victory in 2013. It would be extremely difficult for any other captain to replicate this remarkable achievement.
