FIFA World Cup 2022
‘Cristiano Ronaldo texted Piers Morgan about Portugal Goal after the match against Uruguay’ – Alexi Lalas
Portugal beat Uruguay by 2-0 to qualify for the round of 16 in FIFA World Cup 2022.
The riveting action in the FIFA World Cup 2022 continued as Portugal took on Uruguay in the Group H encounter at Lusail Iconic Stadium on Monday. The match turned out to be an exhilarating affair as Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes scored a brace to help his side secure a 2-0 victory and qualify for the next round in the football extravaganza. Amid all the action that took place during the match, the goal scored by Fernandez in the 54th minute turned out to be the highlight of the game.
It was initially believed that Cristiano Ronaldo had opened the account for Portugal with a header in the 54th minute. The 37-year-old was seen ecstatically celebrating after the ball found the back of Sergio Rochet’s net. However, the replay could not clear whether Ronaldo actually got a touch on the ball resulting in the goal being awarded to Fernandes.
Ronaldo was subbed off with 10 minutes to go before Portugal were awarded a late penalty. With the five-time Ballon d’Or winner now in the dugout, Fernandes stepped up and fired Portugal through to the 2022 World Cup knockout stages.
Ronaldo appeared to be claiming that the ball brushed his hair on the way in after the final whistle. Meanwhile, on Fox Sports, former United States international Alexi Lalas revealed: “Breaking news is that Cristiano Ronaldo did not score, despite his claims that it did touch him.
“I was just with Piers Morgan. He said that Cristiano texted him from the locker room saying he believes that it touched his head. Who knows…”

Unsurprisingly, Piers Morgan has called for Ronaldo to be awarded Portugal’s first goal against Uruguay.
“Ronaldo touched that ball,” the broadcaster insisted. “He should be awarded the goal.”
Portugal survived a hectic finish to the game to become the third team after France and Brazil to qualify for the last 16 and will finish group play against South Korea on Friday.
