Lanka Premier League 2022: All you need to know
The 2022 edition of the Lanka Premier League begins on 6th December 2022. The tournament was, earlier, scheduled to be held during the August window. However, due to the economic crises in the nation, the tournament was postponed to December.
Thus, the third edition is slated to be held from 6th to 23rd December 2022. The tournament will be played across three venues. Khettarama in Colombo will host the initial phase of the tournament. The action will then move to Pallekele, while the latter stage of the tournament will be staged at the Khettarama in Colombo.
As many as five teams participate in the event, such as Jaffna Kings, Kandy Falcons, Galle Gladiators, Aura Dambulla, and Colombo Stars. The tournament will be staged in a round-robin tournament and the top four teams will end up participating in the playoffs.
Much like the Indian T20 League, the top two teams will lock horns with each other in the first qualifier. The winner will find themselves directly in the finals, while the losing team will play qualifier 2.
The third and fourth-placed teams will take on each other in the Eliminator clash. The winner will advance to qualifier 2, while the losing team will be eliminated.
