SkyExch.net named presenting sponsor of Lanka Premier League 2022

SkyExch.net has been named presenting sponsor of the Lanka Premier League 2022. Since 2020, the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has been a professional Twenty20 cricket league in Sri Lanka, contested annually by teams representing Sri Lankan cities.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) established the league in 2018. Ravin Wickramaratne, the Vice President of SLC, was officially appointed as the tournament’s director in August 2020. The premier T20 competition in Sri Lanka was officially postponed in August 2022 due to the country’s crippling economic conditions.

“This decision was taken by the SLC, following a request made by the Innovative Production Group FZE (IPG), the Rights Holder of the tournament, which cited the current ‘economic situation,’ in the country, as not conducive to hosting the tournament,” SLC said in its statement.

The tournament was originally scheduled from 1st August to 21st August. The tournament’s third edition will now begin on December 6 in Hambantota. The first game will be between the defending champions Jaffna Kings and the Galle Gladiators.

The first round of the tournament will feature 20 matches and will take place entirely in Hambantota before moving on to Kandy and then Colombo. The upcoming season’s Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be held on December 21, with Qualifier 2 taking place the following day due to the lack of a break for the teams and players in the knockout round. The final of the 20-over tournament will be held at the RPICS in Colombo on December 23, 2022.

When it comes to the qualifying process, the top two teams in the points table will compete in Qualifier 1, while the third and fourth-placed teams will compete in the ‘Eliminator.’ The winner of ‘Qualifier 1’ will advance directly to the finals, while the loser will play against the winner of the ‘Eliminator’ in ‘Qualifier 2’, with the winner becoming the second finalist.
