Australia vs England 2022
‘White ball dynasty thrashed’ – Fans react to Australia’s crushing win against England in second ODI
Australia won the second ODI by 72 runs and took a 2-0 lead in the series.
After crushing England in the first ODI, Australia locked horns with the Three Lions in the second ODI of the three-match series on November 19, Saturday and it was the Kangaroos who came up on top yet again.
Much to the stupefaction of the fans, both captains were rested and it was Josh Hazlewood who led the Australian team, while Moeen Ali was handed over the responsibility to lead the team for England.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Kangaroos openers David Warner and Travis Head returned to the pavilion after a short stay in the crease. While Warner gathered 16 runs to his name, Head, on the other hand, contributed 19 runs to Australia’s scoreboard and put the team in deep trouble.
However, veteran Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne joined hands in the middle and eventually lifted the team out of the labyrinth. Smith, who scored a fighting 80 in the first ODI, eventually perished after scoring 94 runs, while Labuschagne scored 58 runs to his name. Australia eventually put on 280 runs on the board on the back of Mitchell Marsh’s 50 towards the end.
Australia thrash England in second ODI, clinch series
England, on the other hand, got off to a poor start as Jason Roy perished for a duck, while Philip Salt managed to contribute only 23 runs to the scoreboard. With Dawid Malan, the centurion in the previous match, perishing for a duck, England were reeling at 34/3 when Sam Billings walked to the crease.
However, the duo put on a century-run stand and rescued the Three Lions from the initial hiccup. However, as soon as James Vince returned back to the pavilion for a well-made 60, Billings, who looked steady at the other end, eventually followed back in quick succession after contributing 71 runs to the chase.
Australia, on the other hand, capitalized on the opportunity and started picking up wickets in quick succession, and eventually bowled out England for 208 runs, clinching the match by 72 runs. With the win, the Kangaroos took a 2-0 lead in the series and won it with the final ODI to be played on Tuesday.
