Pakistan crashed out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 after giving it their all against England in the summit clash on November 13 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Post the defeat, many fans from India and Pakistan have been engaging in a Twitter war and a few former cricketers from both countries went on to join the same.

Wasim Akram, the former Pakistani cricketer, opined on the same and said that the fans must stop battling it out on Twitter and requested former cricketers to maintain dignity, claiming that all cricketers are one.

Commenting on the fan war, Akram, during The Pavilion show on A-Sports said that people love their countries respectively and fans on either side of the border must have mutual respect towards each other.

“We should stay neutral. Indians are patriotic about their country, and I am fine with that, we are patriotic about our country. But instead of that, jalti pe tel daalna, tweet pe tweet karna, just don’t do it man,” Akram was quoted as saying in The Pavilion show.

Misbah-ul-Haq backs Wasim Akram’s stance

Misbah-ul–Haq, the former Pakistan batter, seconded Akram’s opinion and said that fans from both countries must refrain from engaging in a ‘Twitter battle’ and claimed that they must respect each other and give opinions respectfully.

“You shouldn’t do this just for the sake of few Likes. Cricketers, whether from India or Pakistan or any other country, we are all a family. So, we should respect each other and give our opinions respectfully. We also have a certain responsibility,” Misbah was quoted as saying.

With the multinational tournament coming to an end with England emerging as the world champions, fans are keen on the bilateral series that are coming up. To add more, while India are in New Zealand to take on Kane Williamson’s side for a three-match T20I and ODI series, Australia will host England for a three-match ODI series set to get underway on November 17, Thursday.
