Twitter goes berserk as Gujarat beat Delhi to make it two in two

Published on

Delhi and Gujarat faced off at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Mumbai. Delhi won the toss and elected to field first, unsurprisingly. They had a great start with the ball as Mustafizur Rahman took the wicket of Matthew Wade (1) in the first over. Vijay Shankar’s (13) painful stay at the crease came to an end when got out on the first ball of the seventh over. Shankar got out to Kuldeep Yadav

At 44/2, skipper Hardik Pandya joined Shubman Gill and stitched a partnership of 55 runs for the third wicket. Pandya (31) got out to Ahmed at the end of the 14th over. Gill scored 84 runs off 46 balls including six fours and four sixes. David Miller (20*) and Rahul Tewatia (14) provided the finishing touches as the team finished 171/6.

For Delhi, Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets, Khaleel Ahmed took two and Kuldeep Yadav took one. In reply, the Men in Blue and Red got off to a poor start as they lost three wickets for 34 in 4.5 overs. They lost the wickets of Tim Siefert (3), Prithvi Shaw (10), and Mandeep Singh (18). Skipper Rishabh Pant and Lalit Yadav (25) stitched a partnership of 61 runs before the latter was run out. Pant went on to score a brisk 43 off 29 balls before he was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson.

The all-rounders such as Axar Patel (8) and Shardul Thakur (2) could not do much as they were dismissed for cheap scores by Ferguson and Rashid Khan respectively. Rovman Powell tried his best with 20 off 12 but was trapped lbw by Mohammed Shami. Khaleel Ahmed followed the next ball as he was caught behind by Matthew Wade on a vicious short ball by Shami. Delhi was restricted to 157/9, losing the game by 14 runs.
